slow starting 78 280z

I have this car for about 9 or 10 months. nice car good shape 130k. But
it has slowly developed a hard starting problem. I had it looked at by a
shop and they did fix my choke. It helped but didn’t solve the problem. I
talked around and was told to change my cold start valve. Didn’t do a thing.
changed gas, changed my fuel filter, plugs, cap, rotor, nothing so far.
I was wondering if it could be a weak fuel pump (that’s probably
reaching)?
One other thing is that when the outside temp in on the cooler side
under 65 or so) it starts right up. But when it gets warmer it really
starts hard. It’s like you have to prime the system everytime.
When I get it started it runs great.

Are there any suggestions out there???

Storage problem

I’ve got a 73 240Z that I stored at my parents place in Missouri.  I’ve
been transferred over seas & it’ll be 3-4 years before I can really play
with my toy again.  I did the normal things to protect the motor & put
it up on blocks with a tarp.

Fired it up when I went back this summer.  Engine’s fine, but the
problem is mould!

The car is sitting outside on blocks, with a tarp over it.  I’ve got
mould everywhere.  Carpets, seat, dash, doors, ceiling, etc…

My wife just bought a nice 86 300Z to drive when she’s visiting the
states (rental cars really rack up the bill on extended visits).  Mine’s
a normal driver, but hers is in really good shape & I don’t want this to
happen to hers.

Any suggestions?  Other than letting someone drive them?

240 Z

I have a 1970 240 Z in the process of a complete restoration.

However, I have developed a "clucking" noise in the left rear axle area.
The shock strut does not seem to be loose and I can’t see or feel where
this is coming from.

Typically the noise occurs when driving on uneven surface. When the
street is smooth everything is fine.

Anyone ever encounter this?

Heating problem

My ’87 300zx (auto non-turbo) has suddenly developed a problem.  For
ages the oil pressure gauge has read 30 consistantly while the
temprature gauge stood happily in the middle of the range.  Now
suddenly, my temprature goes up steadily to the top and my oil pressure
drops to around 15.  There doesn’t seem to be any contamination in water
or oil and I am pretty sure my fan is not working (when the water was
sizzling, I opened the hood/bonnet and although it was red hot the fan
was not running).  I have discovered that I can keep the temprature down
a bit by turning the heating up.

Any ideas as to what my problem here might be.  BTW, my dashboard is not
digital.

Thanx in advance

1990 300Z problem????????????

I had my Z try and overheat today while i was running around. I stiopped
shortly at two places while my wife got some stuff and i was sitting in
the car with it idling with the A/C running. By the time we started
moving again across the street from the 2nd stop I noticed the temp gage
climbing. I was creeping through a parking lot and the A/C was still
going. After i shut it off for 30 minutes while we went in I didn’t run
the A/C to be safe and sure enough it didn’t try and get to hot. Why
would it do that? I have idled with several cars for longer with the A/C
running and never had a problem. Also I am hearing a high pitched noise
on the drivers side while i drive down the road. It is random and only
lasts 5 seconds for any one time but it repeats this continually while
going down the road. I love my car and really want it to last forever so
please help me. I do have one more question. How hard is it to do a
valve adjustment (correct tools of course) as compared to the average
cost of getting it done. E-mail any responses with any replies please.
Thanks

300ZX oil pressure weirdness…

I recently bought an `86 300ZX, which seemed to need only a clutch. When
the car first arrived from CA, I ran the engine until it was thoroughly
hot, and the oil pressure seemed fine–nominally 40 psi at 2K rpm as
read on the dash gauge. For a number of reasons, the car then sat for
about eight weeks before I finished the clutch on it. After I finished
the clutch repair this weekend, I started the car to check clutch
operation, and the oil pressure readings were distinctly abnormal.

Pressure as shown on the dash gauge was 20 psi at idle, then rising to
about 40 psi at 2300 rpm, then falling precipitously to about 10 psi at
2600-2700, then rising again to 45-50 psi at 4000 rpm. The engine
doesn’t sound as if anything is amiss–seems to run fine.

My first thought was that the oil filter was defective, and that has
been replaced with a reputable brand (Mobil One), and the oil looks as
if it was very recently changed. I’m left with a possibly defective oil
pressure sending unit, or a problem with the oil pressure relief valve.

I could check the sending unit against a mechanical gauge, but I don’t
have one handy, and was hoping someone else had seen this sort of
behavior before, and could point me in the right direction before I have
to scrounge up a mechanical gauge and fittings.

Cheers, and thanks…
